October Summary

October has been a mixed month for me

Got my Trade Parking permit from Devon County Council that allows me to park in residents only spaces whilst working nearby ... one less thing for customers and me to have to think about.

I had both my flu and covid jabs on the 5th and that left me with some pretty rough feeling side effects that stopped me working for the following week. I am nearly back to feeling as normal as I get now at the beginning of November.

I also had a couple of days in the middle of the month so I could attend the funeral of a good friend of mine in Lincoln. I'll miss Pete but I'm pleased to have known him. My thanks to Tina and Roger for allowing me to move their job so I could attend the funeral.

And now on to the list of jobs I completed in the remaining working days of October

  • Finished sanding and painting a bathroom walls and ceiling after treating mould and stains previously.

  • Installed an integrated dishwasher in to a space that was previously a drawer and cupboard. Made the dishwasher decor panel from the old cupboard door and the drawer front

  • Installed a Bloc Out blind in a bedroom, I had to provide a solution for this one as the measurements meant the blind was 1.5cm short of filling the space in the window

  • Installed 5 other Blinds to Go blinds in the other rooms in the house

  • Assembled 2 x 6 drawer Malm units, a 2m wide Pax wardrobe with sliding doors, 3 Ikea bedside units with soft close drawers.

  • Wall mounted 2 TVs and hung several pictures, mirrors, shelves and wall mounted a childrens bookcase

  • Installed a stair gate that needed battens to help fill the space where it was fitted

  • Painted a bin shed door .. I am going to have to revisit this job and provide some customer service as the wet weather since I did it has made the door swell and stick.

  • Hung a curtain pole

  • Assembled a sideboard and coffee table

  • Fitted a toilet seat, assembled a coffee table and hung a mirror on the wall

  • Fixed a toilet cistern that wouldn't refill properly by replacing some copper pipe & an isolation valve as well as sorting out a dislodged washer within the mechanism

  • Repointed a patio

  • Fitted a Zebra Blind and sorted out a wobbly bed frame

  • Installed a Cast In Style drying rack.

  • Installed a blind

  • Removed and replaced some cracked floor tiles

  • Replaced some Kitchen doors on cupboards, integrated appliances and drawers with new ones

  • Wall Mounted a TV, installed a curtain rail and put up brackets for 4 shelves

  • Installed panelling in a Motorhome Shower & Toilet/sink area.

  • Cleaned a fish tank

  • Sorted out a leak under a bathroom sink

  • Wall mounted a TV, installed a curtain rail, rehung a bathroom door, fitted a latch to a door and assembled an Ikea Kallax shelving unit

  • Replaced a damaged front door sealing strip

  • Replaced a sink waste trap and stopped a leak under that sink

  • Installed a replacement light fitting and planed two sticking bedroom doors

  • Removed blown render from a 5m long section of garden wall and bagged the waste ready for collection by a waste removal firm

  • Installed 3 replacement light switches, 2 replacement sockets and a new exterior front light

  • Adjusted 2 external uPVC doors so that they open more easily and shut tighter to the frame.

  • Trimmed and refitted a plinth section under a kitchen cupboard

  • Fitted kitchen cupboard doors and drawer fronts

  • Helped move loft contents down to the shed and fitted a Dyson docking station to a wall

  • Installed 2 Bedroom blinds.. had to provide a solution for this job because the supplied fittings and screws prevented the blinds actually sitting in the fittings properly

  • Installed a decorative glass ball on a newell post on a staircase landing. Hung a balloon ornament from a ceiling above the stairs.

  • Fitted several pictures and ornaments on walls, installed make up lights next to a mirror and fixed a loose door handle

  • Fitted 4 shelves, put up a coat rack, hung a decoration, Wall mounted a TV, attached a bookcase to a wall, fitted a baby monitor camera mount and hung some pictures/mirrors

  • Hung 5 framed photos

  • Painted a kitchen ceiling, walls, skirting, door and window frame.

  • Helped hang a new curtain and filled/sanded cracks in bathroom ceiling

  • Fixed 2 kitchen cupboards that had broken hinges

  • Sealed and painted a kitchen ceiling that had water stains from previous bathroom leak

  • Replaced rotten boards on apex of shed roof with new ones

  • Fixed sliding wardrobe doors that were stuck, put up coat rack, offered advice about a threshold between rooms

  • Replaced an integrated dishwasher with a new one.

I've been busy doing quotes for lots of jobs that will be coming up in November, December and January!
