September 2024 Summary

I start these summary post by saying "I've been busy" ... I think that goes without saying now so that will be the last time I say that!

In September I completed the following jobs and managed to have nearly a whole week off ... only snuck a couple of days work in to my time off.

  • Replaced 12 internal door handles and mortice latches with new fittings

  • Replaced 5 internal bathroom door fittings with new mortice and plates

  • Did my regular weekly clean of a coldwater fishtank and added new plants to the tank as well

  • Finished installing power to a summerhouse

  • Painted a hallway, stairs and landing

  • Connected an outside tap to a hose reel

  • Installed 3 ceiling fans

  • Replaced a bathroom light fitting with a new one that meets the IP (Ingress Protection) regs

  • Replaced light switches with new ones for a hallway, stairs and landing

  • Hung 14 Pictures on walls for various customers

  • Replaced old carpet and coir mat in a hallway with new laminate flooring

  • Replaced a light fitting with a new one

  • Fitted two corner shelves

  • Reversed the doors on a Fridge Freezer

  • Replaced a loft ladder that was too tight to use properly with a new ladder that needed a bigger hatch to be installed as well.

  • Built a 3 door Ikea Pax Wardrobe and a 4 drawer Malm chest

  • Installed a blind

  • Cleaned a patio .. weeded between slate slabs, then jet washed it.. Transformed the look. Will be returning next month to repoint the patio

  • Sealed and re-painted a water stained section of ceiling

  • Dismantled a jewellers work bench

  • Replaced a pop up sink waste. This was a tight space to work in and could only be done by removing the sink from the wall and then refitting everything and putting in new silicone sealant.

  • Treated and sealed a mould stained ceiling in the eaves of a loft conversion. Installed some ventilation and painted the eaves space with mould resistant paint

  • Fixed a leak from white plastic plumbing under a kitchen sink

  • Found the cause of an guttering drain not draining properly ... a rotting apple stuck in the pipe! Removed it and advised customer to install mesh over guttering to stop apples falling from the tree into the guttering

  • Painted a Kitchen

  • Installed electrics to garden shed from the house. Shed now has an RCD fuse box providing power to a light and double socket

  • Re laid some uneven slabs and attached a gazebo to the house to stop it blowing away in high winds

  • Painted a bespoke pattern in two colours on the tiles above a bath ... this takes a surprising amount of time in prep and masking before you even get to the paint!

  • Wall Mounted a TV and hid the cables within the wall

  • Replaced a section of floor in a hair salon that had been water damaged in a flood and was now dangerous to walk on.

  • Dismantled a bed, curtain pole, wardrobe and helped move the items in to storage in loft and shed

  • Planed a sticking front door

  • Repaired a Roman Blind and got it working again

  • Repaired some loose bits of laminate flooring

  • Painted the living room, dining area, kitchen, bathroom, downstairs loo and all 3 bedrooms in a house ... banished the magnolia with a nice fresh looking white!

  • Replaced some kitchen waste pipe with a new section to stop the old joins clogging up with detritus

  • Assembled a chest of drawers

  • Replaced a broken bath panel with a new one

  • Replaced a broken extractor vent cover with a new one

I'm always busy fitting in assessments for jobs and providing advice as well.

This month I also decided to change the way I book jobs a little to try and be more available for people with smaller or urgent jobs.

I now try and keep one day a week (usually Mondays) for smaller jobs that could take an hour or two. I then book Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for bigger jobs. Fridays I may book for the bigger jobs or keep the odd one floating so I have some time free for last minute jobs or admin. So far I'm so busy I haven't managed to keep many days floating at all!

As it currently stands I only have a few days left in December for bigger jobs and slots on Mondays for smaller jobs in November & December. I've already got bookings in to January 2025. If I get any cancellations they are filled very quickly!

I also want to give thanks to all my customers who took the time to write a review for me on Facebook, Nextdoor, Google or on my website. They are very much appreciated!
